Sochi Arboretum
🏞️ Sochi Arboretum — a picturesque open-air park-museum, founded in 1892 by V.A. Khudoyev, the creator of Riviera Park.
The uniqueness of the place lies in its rich collection of subtropical flora: over 1,800 plant species from around the world grow on terraces with panoramic views of the Black Sea. This is an oasis of calm in the heart of the resort, where you can stroll among ancient sequoias, blooming magnolias, and exotic palms while enjoying the sea breeze.
ℹ️ Key zones of the park:
Lower Park — the flat area with ponds inhabited by swans, ducks, and pelicans. The most photogenic specimens grow here: bamboo alleys, Japanese cherry blossoms, and Himalayan cedars. Ideal for leisurely walks with children and photo shoots.
Upper Park — a terraced zone on the slope of Lyssaya Mountain with viewpoints. Panoramic views of the sea and the city open up from here. The collection includes rare species: araucarias, bald cypress, and fan palms.
Cable car — a modern lift connecting the lower and upper parts of the park. The ride takes 3 minutes and offers breathtaking views. At the top, there is a viewpoint that can accommodate more than 70 people. From there, you can admire the Black Sea, the Caucasus Range, and the Sochi port. Special binoculars are available for visitors.
Aviary complex — a mini-zoo corner with peacocks, pheasants, and decorative birds. Children can feed the birds under staff supervision (feed is sold at the entrance).
Thematic collections — rose garden, cactus garden, Japanese corner, Mediterranean terrace. Each zone is designed in the style of the region that donated the plants.
"Villa Nadezhda" — houses an exhibition dedicated to the life and work of the park's founder, S.N. Khudoyev, and the history of Russian ballet. Khudoyev ordered plants for the park from the best botanical nurseries in southern France and Italy. The main plantings in the park were completed in 1892. This date is considered the founding of the Sochi Arboretum. The beauty of the park is highlighted by ancient gazebos ("Greek" and "with eagles"), sculptures, fountains, and flower vases. Thematic art exhibitions, creative evenings, and musical events are regularly held at Villa Nadezhda.
